Ong Wei Da

Ong Wei Da began learning the Yangqin at the age of 8 years old, and has been under the tutelage of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s Yangqin Principal Ms Qu Jian Qing since 2014. Currently a 3rd-year student at the National University of Singapore (NUS) studying Chemical Engineering, he is also a humble recipient of the Performing and Visual Arts Scholarship administered by NUS. In 2014 and 2016, Wei Da clinched the 1st Prize in the National Chinese Music Competition – Yangqin Youth and Open Categories respectively. He also achieved a distinction for his Diploma in Yangqin performance conducted at the NAFA-CCOM Chinese Instrumental Examinations in 2017. With the support of the National Arts Council, he attended a 2-week training programme at the Central Conservatory of Music in April 2018 under Professor Liu Yue Ning.
