Shunta Goh

Erhu Teacher Shunta Shunta Goh is a multi-award-winning Singaporean Erhu player and conductor. He started learning the Erhu at the age of 9 under the tutelage of renowned Erhu master Mr. Zhang Yu Ming.

In 2010, he won the 1st Prize in the Erhu Open category of the National Chinese Music Competition (NCMC) organised by the Singapore National Arts Council, and made his performance debut with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra with the Erhu Concerto “Red Plum Capriccio”, receiving rave reviews. In 2014, he also clinched 1st prize in the NAFA-GTAR Chinese Concerto Competition. In 2016, he led the Toa Payoh West Community Club Chinese Orchestra to 1st prize in the Ensemble Category of the NCMC.

Since 2015, Shunta has been invited as a guest Erhu musician/soloist by the Singapore Wind Symphony, Jiyin Youth Wind Symphony (Taiwan), Bridges Collective (Australia), Temple of Fine Arts (Singapore) and Minnesota Chinese Music Ensemble (USA), performing extensively in countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea and the USA.

A recipient of the prestigious National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Undergraduate), Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Scholarship and Ngee Ann Kongsi Arts Scholarship, Shunta graduated with First Class Honors from the Royal College of Music – Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Bachelor of Music programme in 2015. In 2017, he was awarded the prestigious National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Postgraduate) to pursue a Master of Music degree majoring in orchestral conducting at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing, under the tutelage of Professor Ye Jin, graduating with top honors in July 2020.

Shunta has served as conductor of the Tsinghua University Traditional Orchestra, University of Science and Technology Beijing Chamber Orchestra, China Youth Traditional Orchestra, and the China International Youth Chamber Orchestra. He has also served as Huqin sectional instructor for various orchestras including Tsinghua University Traditional Orchestra, National University of Singapore Chinese Orchestra, and Victoria Junior College Chinese Orchestra. He is also a founding member of award-winning local Huqin ensemble StringWerkz.
