Cheney Teh first started learning the erhu at the age of 8 under the tutelage of renowned erhu master Zhang Yu Ming. She obtained both a Diploma in Erhu Performance from NUS Centre for the Arts in 2012 and one from NAFA-CCOM Chinese Instrumental Exams in 2013.Outside of school orchestras, she was also involved in Toa Payoh West Community Club Chinese Orchestra, and joined SNYCO in 2018 as an erhu player. Later on in 2019 she participated in the Hong Kong Youth Music Camp as one of the representatives under SNYCO, and also went for overseas exchange trips to Shanghai, Suzhou, and Guangzhou.
Cheney studied at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in the erhu. She is also actively involved in orchestras, ensembles and teaching, Cheney also takes interest in other traditional and lesser-known art forms, and is learning Nanyin music from Siong Leng.
